PointBase Licenses Its Java Database To Metrowerks, A Motorola Company, For Its CodeWarrior Java IDE

Licensing agreement with PointBase helps enhance the productivity of developers designing applications for smart devices and mobile/wireless applications

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA., Sept. 25, 2000 — PointBase today announced that Metrowerks, a Motorola Company, has licensed the right to include PointBase's industry-leading database in Metrowerks' CodeWarrior Integrated Development Environment (IDE). The database meets the 100% Pure Java certification standard and has a small memory footprint, ideal for applications targeted toward smart devices. The agreement gives Metrowerks an embedded pure Java database, helping boost the productivity of Java developers writing database applications for mobile information devices.

"With the addition of PointBase, CodeWarrior will allow Java device developers to write database applications right out of the box without engaging a database administrator," said Greg Stoner, VP of Marketing at Metrowerks. "The combination of PointBase and CodeWarrior offers smart device and wireless developers the smallest Java database footprint, powerful development environment, fully JDBC and SQL compliant solution and synchronization with all major enterprise databases. Developers can now quickly develop, deploy and sync mobile and legacy databases."

"We are thrilled to be working in such close cooperation with Metrowerks the leading, Java IDE vendor for smart devices and wireless applications," said Bruce Scott, founder and CEO of PointBase, the leader in mobile wireless data management and synchronization products that meet the 100% Pure JavaTM certification. "The real beneficiaries, though, are Java device developers worldwide, who will get a significant productivity boost by developing smart device applications and their databases simultaneously, in one environment."

Metrowerks' CodeWarrior IDE will support a wide range of applications on mobile/wireless devices, Internet appliances, and hand-held PDAs. CodeWarrior will ship with an evaluation version of the PointBase Embedded Server late Q4 2000. Upon licensing with PointBase, developers have the option to upgrade to a full working version at any time for application deployment purposes.

PointBase is also bundled with Visual Café, an IDE from WebGain, Inc. and the Forte for Java product family from Sun Microsystems, Inc.
