SmartSales Licenses PointBase Java Database To Enter New Markets With Its CRM Software
SmartSales to offer its first 100% Pure Java suite for mobile and enterprise sales tracking and management, complementing its current Microsoft Office-based product
MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA., Sept. 12, 2000 PointBase, the leader in platform independent technology for data management and synchronization products, announced today that SmartSales, Inc.(CDNX:SA) has licensed the PointBase database for use in a new Java customer relationship management (CRM) software suite. The new software suite will permit SmartSales to enter new markets including application service providers ("ASPs") by enabling SmartSales to deliver Java platform independence that addresses mobile/wireless devices and a full spectrum of enterprise platforms. The agreement covers PointBase Mobile and Network Server products, as well as PointBase UniSync, for automatically synchronizing data across multiple disconnected databases.
"We selected PointBase because of its leading position as a Java solutions provider that can deliver platform independence, small footprint, rapid development features, as well as a simple fee structure to permit us to quickly and easily enter new markets." said Don Parker, president and CEO, SmartSales. "We also are confident that our future direction will map well with theirs. PointBase has garnered some significant industry praise recently, and we feel they are emerging as a leader and, possibly, the standard for mobile/wireless data management and synchronization."
"With the PointBase database at the core of their Java suite, SmartSales will be well positioned to help their customers make the transition to the Post-PC Era, which will be dominated by mobile/wireless applications and platform independence." said Bruce Scott, founder and CEO of PointBase.
A number of development efficiencies in the PointBase system are helping to speed time to market, Mr. Parker added. They include built-in capabilities of UniSync for synchronizing data entered from multiple connected and disconnected devices, and for conflict resolution when entries are at odds with one another. "These are very complex capabilities to program from scratch," Parker noted. "Having them built into the program saves us a lot of time."
