Extensity Increases Reach Of Workforce Optimization Suite With PointBase Moblile Edition 100% Pure Java Database
Extensity and Pointbase team to support employees anywhere, anytime
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., April 17, 2000 PointBase, the leader in wireless mobile data management products, today announced that Extensity, Inc. is embedding PointBase Mobile Edition with its Workforce Optimization Suite. In the latest release of Extensity Workforce Optimization Suite, Extensity Timesheets, Expense Reports, and Travel Plans will use PointBase Mobile Edition to augment the Extensity offline client with enterprise data to fully support today's increasingly mobile professional. Extensity selected PointBase to deliver this requirement because it is 100% Pure Java application that can run on nearly any mobile platform, with the smallest commercially available footprint.
"Extensity software enhances the productivity of our customers' employees across the enterprise wherever and however they work on corporate networks as well as on mobile devices, such as laptops and handheld computers and now, with PointBase, we can further our offline client support with additional enterprise data," said Elizabeth Ireland, vice president of marketing, Extensity. "We chose PointBase Mobile Edition because its Java-based platform independence helps keep our suite eligible for use on the widest range of operating systems, and because its small footprint helps optimize performance. We are also pleased to be partnering with PointBase who shares our vision for the migration of computing technology to smaller, mobile devices for enhanced productivity."
Mobile users of Extensity can work with enterprise data in the field, while disconnected from the enterprise database, by either bringing the applications and their accompanying databases with them on mobile appliances, such as sub-notebook computers, or by downloading the software remotely. Users then can enter their expenses and billable time during offline sessions, and upload it back to the central database remotely or upon their return in a fully synchronized model.
"Extensity shares with PointBase a vision for using the Internet, mobile appliances and standards-based technologies to improve the efficiency of corporate processes," said Bruce Scott, president and CEO of PointBase, who also co-founded Oracle Corporation. "It's a compelling vision that is resulting in an equally compelling set of time-saving data management capabilities from Extensity."
The PointBase database also delivers on several other key requirements of the mobile Extensity applications for low maintenance, compliance with industry standards such as Java and the SQL language that underlies Extensity's applications and data, and support of international languages. PointBase complies with the Unicode standard, which supports the world's principal international languages, including those in European and Pacific Rim countries.
"In the future, Extensity plans to embed PointBase in additional applications and to target smaller appliances to run the applications", Ireland said.
