MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., Dec. 20, 1999 – PointBase, the leader in small-footprint 100% Pure Java embedded database management products led by Oracle Corporation co-founder Bruce Scott, today announced the first four members of its QuickPoint partners program for independent software vendors (ISVs). The four are: GE Harris Energy Control Systems, LLC, Melbourne, Fla.; DCIT Corporation, Ridgefield, N.J.; Evergreen Internet, Inc., Phoenix; and Visualize, Inc., Phoenix. PointBase's new QuickPoint program offers profitable opportunities for ISVs to develop, market and support database-driven solutions for e-commerce, mobile and Internet-enabled applications.

"At PointBase, we are committed to partnering with best-of-breed ISVs whose leadership products and services enhance – and are enhanced by – the PointBase offering," said Bruce Scott, president and CEO of PointBase "ISVs deliver total solutions and expert consulting services that our customers need and expect. The QuickPoint program is built around PointBase's Mobile Edition and Network Server database products, which enable ISVs to develop 100% Pure Java, distributed, database-driven applications that support e-commerce, mobile work forces and the distribution of enterprise data onto Internet appliances and devices. Among the company's products are EnterNet View, which puts their core energy management system's operational displays into a Java applet that company executives, partner utilities and customers can run. "By using PointBase Mobile Edition in EnterNet View 2, we were able to deliver a smaller, more scalable and robust, and better performing product," said Mitch Patterson, product manager, GE Harris. "It filled our need for an embedded administrative management database that customers don't have to know about and don't have to maintain, and we are very happy with it."

DCIT Corporation is a fast growing provider of specialized business applications for the global gem and jewelry industry based on the company's BusinessMind for Jewelers product, an accounting and business management solution that provides end-to-end control of operations. "PointBase will play a critical role in migrating our product to the Java platform, where we can support clients using Windows, Unix and MacOS," said Raffi Minassian, founder, DCIT. "It has a small footprint so we can embed it in our single-user product. It also can exist in a multi-user server configuration so that our customers can easily migrate from single-user to multi-user systems. In my view, PointBase provides solid performance, in pure Java, at a reasonable price."

Evergreen Internet, Inc., a pioneer in electronic commerce software, provides the industry's first e-commerce software product fully based on open standards and distributed computing. ECentialĂ” features a component-based, open architecture written completely in Java, utilizing CORBA and XML. "We were looking for a 100% Java database with a small footprint and a reasonable price point that could be set up without a database administrator and could leverage multiple database types in the enterprise," said Kristin Gillespie, vice president of marketing, Evergreen. "PointBase gives us all that and more. With PointBase integrated into ECential, our customers get started fast and can take advantage of its seamless operation with any database and any hardware for easy application migrations and a nice upgrade path."

Visualize, Inc., based in Phoenix, Ariz., develops and markets sophisticated Java-based data visualization and analysis software with consulting services worldwide. , the premiere data visualization class library, is currently used by more than 400 organizations with custom applications for the financial services, insurance and telecommunications industries. "Our relationship with PointBase has a lot of synergy across our products and corporate visions," said Mark Surico, vice president of Sales, Visualize, Inc. "Our goal is to work with them on application-specific solutions. Many of our customers have multiple data sources, and we recognize the value of having a single 100% Pure Java database to help them develop sophisticated visualization applications."

More About the PointBase QuickPoint Program
The PointBase QuickPoint program is designed specifically for Java ISVs. The program enables ISVs to produce a portable, pure Java, easy-to-download demo or evaluation software that includes a database and requires no database configuration. The program was designed to expand and enhance ISVs exposure to more prospects by building e-Business solutions entirely in Java. Specifically, the program provides ISVs with the option to purchase a single-user full-function copy of the database with no limits on database size at a discounted price and to participate in software beta test programs. In addition, the ISV is eligible to participate in joint marketing and public relations initiatives and to be listed in the PointBase Connection Program, which provides site visitors with a description of the ISV's company and a link to the ISV's Web site.

In the first quarter of the year 2000, PointBase plans to establish a Partners' Council as a forum for sharing knowledge and feedback to ensure that the program continues to meet changing partner and market needs.
