PointBase Launches Focal Point Program for Systems Integrators

First to sign with the Java embedded database management leader: NET Information Systems, PROVISTA Software, Object Computing, One to One Interactive and Oven Digital

SAN MATEO, CA, December 1, 1999 PointBase, the leader in small-footprint 100% Pure Java embedded database management products led by Oracle Corporation co-founder Bruce Scott, today announced the first five members of its Focal Point program for Systems Integrators (SI). They are: NET Information Systems, Seattle; Object Computing, Inc., St. Louis and Phoenix; One to One Interactive, LLC., Boston; Oven Digital, New York; and PROVISTA Software International, Inc., Fremont, Calif. PointBase's newly launched program offers profitable new opportunities and benefits for SIs, resulting in a vital framework for meeting the customer's need for a wide-range of consulting services.

"At PointBase, we recognize that systems integrators are a driving force in the process of leading Fortune 500 companies to adopt innovative new technologies - like ours," said Bruce Scott, president and CEO of PointBase "They offer a broad range of expertise and consulting services that our customers require and that we, as a software company, are not equipped to offer. Consequently, we want to move PointBase forward by focusing our attention to attracting the leading SIs, and providing them with incentive and tools to further promote their services and expertise."

The program provides systems integrators with unlimited freeware, finder's fees and access to a variety of PointBase marketing activities, including public relations, joint speaking opportunities and white paper creation. Key to systems integrators is the use of PointBase's Mobile Edition and Network Server database products that enable them to develop 100% Pure Java, distributed, database-driven applications that support e-commerce, mobile work forces and the distribution of enterprise data onto Internet appliances and devices.

Addressing 'a New Realm of Applications'
NET Information Systems is a Sun Authorized Java Center that develops enterprise Java applications for state governments and commercial companies in the Pacific Northwest, and is using PointBase to give field service technicians access to large databases when servicing aircraft. "PointBase opens up a whole new realm of applications that customers have asked us to provide but we have turned down up until now because we lacked the tools to address their needs," said Mark Slosberg, president, NET Information Systems. "The PointBase technology gives us the database interoperability these applications demand, and from a corporate perspective, PointBase provides a very attractive package."

Object Computing is a global provider of object-oriented middleware products and services and a Sun Authorized Java Center that provides consulting, training and mentoring for Midwestern Fortune 500 companies in aerospace, telecommunications and financial services in support of their transition to object-oriented coding from legacy environments. "We make it a habit to be aware of leadership products, and to make the best available to our customers," said Malcolm Spence, director of business development, Object Computing. "We were the first in our market to focus on Java, and PointBase reinforces our leading-edge reputation by effectively addressing the space where we believe the future lies, with handheld products below the level of the desktop, where the Java database is a key technology."

One to One Interactive, LLC., Boston, is a strategic interactive agency that specializes in developing one-to-one customer interactions over the Internet for Fortune 500 and other large companies in the Northeast and Chicago. "We develop our customers' solutions on industry-standard, architecturally independent platforms, such as Java," said David Landrith, chief technology officer, One to One Interactive, LLC. "We became interested in PointBase because it is the best performing Java database we've seen, and because its scalability on the Web and replication capabilities permit it to perform very well in our applications."

Oven Digital is a full-service Internet strategy and development company that assists Fortune 500 corporations and start-ups alike to conceive and execute branding, e-commerce, business-to-business and wireless strategies. "We absolutely share PointBase's enthusiasm for a future in which portability and the ubiquity of Java in everyday devices makes enterprise business applications easier to deploy, use and scale," said Chris Mauritz, chief operating officer of Oven Digital. "Partnering with PointBase will give Oven and its clients a significant competitive advantage as we push further into a wide range of business-to-business and wireless applications." Oven Digital has offices in New York, San Francisco, Toronto, London, Sydney and Tokyo.

PROVISTA Software International has leveraged its longstanding mainframe application development expertise to become a leader in legacy-to-Web middleware solutions that extend the life of legacy systems for customers that include Bayer Pharmaceuticals, Onyx Acceptance Corporation, Pacific Bell, Pacific Gas & Electric and other Fortune 500 companies. "We chose PointBase because it is optimized for extremely small network and mobile devices, and because it is stable and well-engineered, which means low cost of ownership," said Joanne Culver, president, PROVISTA. "Most importantly, this Java-based database enables us to offer customers intelligent multimedia network management solutions that are far advanced over what others are offering today."

More About the PointBase Focal Point Program for Systems Integrators
To ensure that the partnership program is profitable for SI partners, PointBase employs a streamlined process for awarding finder's fees anytime high volumes dictate that sales go direct. Channel conflict will be minimized by limiting the number of partners in any given geographical area. And, to ensure that the program continues to meet changing partner and market needs, PointBase plans to establish in the first quarter, 2000 a Focal Point Partner's Council as a forum for sharing knowledge and feedback.

PointBase is aggressively pursuing top Systems Integrators. SIs interested in partnering with PointBase should contact Mark Bowman, vice president, Sales, 650.294.7234, email: mark.bowman@pointbase.com.
