Integrated Systems, Inc. Teams with PointBase to Develop New Breed of Java-Based Internet Appliances
Collaborative agreement provides customers with proven embedded data management solution for mobile clients and Internet-enabled devices; initiative represents first implementation of embedded database on pJava
SAN FRANCISCO, Calif., June 15, 1999 Integrated Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq:INTS), a leading worldwide provider of embedded systems software for a broad range of industries, today announced at JavaOne, the Sun Microsystems Worldwide Developer Conference, that it has entered into a strategic partnership with PointBase, to seamlessly embed PointBase's database products with Integrated Systems' own pSOSystem pJava environment. Under the terms of the agreement, the two companies will qualify the technology integration and provide joint sales channel and marketing support for the development of Internet appliances, such as Web-based personal digital appliances (PDAs) and set-top boxes.
"PointBase provides innovative products that enable our customers to move to market quickly with Internet appliances that contain embedded databases," said Chuck Boesenberg, CEO and president of Integrated Systems, Inc. "We believe that a new generation of mobile information devices, with limited resources, will require database synchronization with much larger systems; the PointBase partnership makes that happen."
Today's announcement marks the first successful implementation of an embedded database on pJava, which will help drive the explosive growth of Internet-based, embedded database applications. The combined efforts of the two companies results in a platform that provides faster product implementations, thereby significantly reducing time-to-market and ensuring near-zero cost of ownership within an exceptionally small product footprint.
"Integrated Systems has a proven track record in real-time embedded systems and provides the means and capabilities for implementing real-world consumer devices," said Bruce Scott, president and CEO, PointBase "Increasingly, these devices depend on data management and data replication capabilities. ISI offers an ideal and proven platform for PointBase-driven solutions. We are delighted to be partnering with ISI to define the Internet appliance framework and market initiatives for embedded system databases," said Scott.
Powering Next-Generation Solutions
Integrated Systems' pSOS® operating system provides the basis for driving Java technology into embedded applications. pSOS and the development tools environment, pRISM+®, combined with the pJava platform, provides the smallest memory and most efficient execution environment for pJava based applications. PointBase products are custom tuned to implement sophisticated database functionality in a small, resource constrained environment. The combination of an efficient pJava platform on pSOS, and the sophisticated PointBase database is ideal for consumer device manufacturers, where cost of manufacturing and cost of ownership are most important.
